M III control unit:
The milk cooling tank is equipped with a MIII tank control unit.
The MIII control unit is a microprocessor-controlled control system for the cooling and cleaning process of a Mueller Europe (Silo) milk cooling tank.
The MIII control unit has a modern user interface, volume measurement (optional), integrated error diagnosis, PC connection and it has numerous settings and options.
Through the connection of an MIII control unit to a milking robot, a fully automatic system is created, which co-ordinates the process from milking to milk extraction by the dairy vehicle.
Main tasks of the milk tank control unit:
1. Managing the cooling process
2. Managing the cleaning process
3. Monitoring and registration of the temperatures
4. Connection to the milking robot (optional/possible)
The milk in the silo milk cooling tank will be cooled thanks to one or two cooling machines. The MIII control unit
continuously measures the temperature and turns the cooling machine on and off, depending on the requirements.
When the cooling machine is turned on, the corresponding signal is sent to the MIII control unit.
The silo milk tank is equipped with an agitator. During the cooling process, the milk is continuously stirred.
The milk is stirred at regular intervals (even if the refrigeration system is not cooling it), in order to guarantee a homogenous fat distribution in the milk.
There are several possibilities to start the cooling: either immediately, or after a set time period, or
after setting up a particular fill level (an optional MLD sensor is required for this).
The MIII control unit provides support for a quick cleaning system for short cleaning times, which offers the additional advantage
of reduced water and energy consumption. The short cleaning times lead to shorter downtimes of the milking robot,
and give the driver of the dairy vehicle more time to collect the milk
The cleaning process consists of one or more rinse cycles, a main cleaning phase (with cleaning fluid)
as well as one or more final rinse cycles. Here, the pre-wash and post-wash rinses are both direct-to-drain; thus,
the rinsing water is drained immediately. The water is circulated during the main cleaning period.
The MIII control unit is equipped with two dosage pumps for the automatic dosage of the cleaning fluids. The dosed quantities are adjustable.
The changeover between alkaline and acidic cleaning fluid is also adjustable. During the dosage, there is a control
to ensure that the cleaning water has enough cleaning fluid.
The MIII control unit checks if the cleaning process is carried out at a high enough temperature. There is also an
optional check to ensure that the cleaning water has been completely drained. A further option is the conductivity measurement,
which checks if enough cleaning fluid has been administered during the main cleaning phase, and if all
milk and cleaning fluid residue has been drained during the final rinse.
If the cleaning programme was unsuccessful or incomplete, the corresponding alarm will be generated.
Connection to the milking robot:
The cows can be milked for the whole day (24 hours) with the milking robot,
which generates a constant milk flow to the milk cooling tank.
The MIII control unit is equipped with an interface for the direct connection to a milking robot.
When using the intermediate tank, the milk is conducted there for as long as the milk cooling tank is
emptied and cleaned.
If an intermediate tank is not used, the robot is switched off during the emptying and cleaning of
the milk cooling tank. The MIII control unit sends commands to the robot.
After a successful cleaning process, the MIII control unit closes the automated milk draining valve
and the cooling process is starting automatically. If the cleaning process is unsuccessful,
the corresponding alarm is generated.
